Simian virus 40-Chinese hamster kidney cell interaction. III. Characteristics of chemical induction in a clone of virogenic transformed cells.
A number of chemical and physical agents were screened to determine their effectiveness in inducing simian virus (SV40) production in a virogenic clone of SV40-transformed Chinese hamster cells. Mitomycin C (MC) was the most effective inducing agent, and MC induction was further characterized. It was found that levels of infectious SV40 DNA were increased above control levels as early as 6 h af...
متن کاملProperties of simian virus 40 rescued from cell lines transformed by ultraviolet-irradiated simian virus 40.
Simian virus 40 (SV40) strains have been rescued from various clonal lines of mouse kidney cells that had been transformed by ultraviolet (UV)-irradiated SV40. To learn whether some of the rescued SV40 strains were mutants, monkey kidney (CV-1) cells were infected with the rescued virus strains at 37 C and at 41 C. The SV40 strains studied included strains rescued from transformed cell lines cl...
متن کاملSuperinfection of simian virus 40-transformed permissive cells with simian virus 40.
Evidence that the resistance of simian virus (SV40)-transformed permissive cells to superinfection with SV40 is due to lack of virus uptake is presented. When virus uptake is enhanced, the events of infection proceed as in normal permissive cells, resulting in production of infectious virus.
متن کاملDistribution and virogenic effects of 5-bromodeoxyuridine in synchronized rat embryo cells.
Rat embryo cell cultures were synchronized by a double thymidine block. The DNA replication phase (S) was divided into an early, middle, and late period. Cell cultures in the early, middle, or late S phase were pulsed with 0.1 muM 5-bromo[(3)H]deoxyuridine (BrdU) or equimolar [(3)H]dT. DNA-DNA reassociation experiments of each sample revealed that [(3)H]BrdU was more concentrated in the interme...
متن کاملComparison of properties of mouse cells transformed spontaneously by ultraviolet light-irradiated herpes simplex virus or by simian virus 40.
A cloned line of BALB/c-derived mouse cells (10E2) was used to compare the phenotypic properties of cells transformed either spontaneously, by UV-irradiated herpes simplex virus (UV-HSV), or by SV40. Cells transformed by SV40 (tumorigenic and nontumorigenic) expressed several in vitro properties usu ally associated with transformed cells, including: (a) growth in serum-deficient medium; (b) hig...
